Although this isn't a registered non-profit organization, I can accept voluntary contributions. However, these donations aren't tax deductible for the giver. On my end, I'll have to report the money as personal income and possibly pay self-employment tax. I would, in the future, like this to become a 501 (c)(3) public charity, but for now I just want to start small. I may, however, be able to partner with an existing 501 (c)(3) in the targeted individual space who will agree to handle the legal/tax side. If I am able to do that, then the donations would go through them and would be tax-deductible.
